After the big sized N97, Nokia realizes its miniversion named as N97 Mini with better performance. It’s lighter than N97 and more powerful than its predecessor. They have decreased the screen size to 3.2 inch and internal memory has lessened to 8 GB. There is no D-pad instead of it, there are navigational arrows, body is full of metallic parts, and battery is small and No FM transmitter. The phone has decent looks and similar to N97 with slider which horizontally moves. Below the screen there is a menu button and call, end key which are touch sensitive. Left side of the phone comes with charger plus connectivity slot and slide lock, on the right side there is volume adjustment and shutter keys, top portion consist of power button and 3.5 mm slot for audio. The slider slides in an angle so the front panel viewed in a slanting position.
The keypad of Nokia N97 mini is as similar to Sony Viao P. Square type keys with comfortable to use. The device is made with more expectations in balanced phone. The performance with ARM II 434 MHz processor does impress me. The interface is user-friendly Symbian OS, which nowadays can easily perform by kids also. As usual touch screen, flicking the finger you can scroll the pages. There are options such as single and double tapping for touch screen. There are five customizable widgets on the main screen such as communication, emails, pictures, facebook and music player. We can move and hide the widgets by swiping the finger horizontally. The extra feature is its accelerometer, in which when a call comes we can silence the ring tone by shaking. It has inbuilt handwriting recognition and alphanumeric keypad for touch screen.
Features such as POP3, IMAP4, and view PDF, word, excel and PPT files, also edit them when we upgrade the application. Talking about communication it supports Wi-Fi with UpnP, Bluetooth, A2DP, etc. The surfing makes simple and user-friendly with tapping feature of touch screen. But browser is slightly outdated with feature such as multitab browsing. Latest Addition of Nokia phones which comes with OVI store, maps, etc. The phone has A-GPS feature with voice guided which is not used in India.
Talking about multimedia it has music player which supports most of the codecs and an FM radio with RDS feature, both are touch optimized. Six equalizer pre-sets, stereo widening, Loudness are the added settings. But sound clarity is not enough from both loudspeaker and headset. It has 5.0 MP camera with Carl Zeiss Lens with out any protective covering on it. Dual LED flash gives decent lighting in lowlight conditions. Picture and Video quality are decent, There are added features such as self-timer, close up, portrait, sports, etc. I was really depressed with its camera that it doesn’t even comes around Sony’s Cybershot.
Finally it costs me 28K Rs which is pricey for an 8GB plus not having enough features like Iphone 3GS, LG crystal, Sony Ericsson Satio. The battery lasts only for one day with calling, browsing, playing music and videos. But if you likes speed of interface you must opt this phone.
I rate this phone 8/10
